The Vidyalaya is a unit of Kendriya Vidyalaya Sangathan (KVS) an autonomous body under the Ministry of Human Resource Development, Govt. of India. It is affiliated to the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE).

The Vidyalaya has come a long way since its inception in October 1986. Today, it is housed in an imposing building with all modern amenities in its own campus in Mangattuparamba which is 17km to the North of Kannur town along the National Highway. Situated in the midst of green and sylvan surroundings of the area, a bit away from the bustle of the city, the institution enjoys the best possible natural and hi-tech ambience for the pursuit of knowledge.

The Vidyalaya has state-of-the-art fully accessible infrastructure. It has a vibrant academic environment to nurture and inspire its young student community. It is essentially a student friendly institution. The alumni of the Vidyalaya have excelled in different walks of life and over the years, the Vidyalaya has been recognized for its quality. It has classes from I to XII and Pre-Primary. Present strength of the Vidyalaya is 1462. There are three sections each in Classes I to IX and two sections in Class X. In the Senior Secondary section, the Vidyalaya offers English Core, Physics, Chemistry, Biology, Math’s/Hindi core in Science Stream and English Core, Economics, Business studies, Accountancy, Math’s/Hindi core in Commerce stream.
